Cannes Day Six - 13 May 2017
Today was a train strike day, which is always interesting in figuring out what time to arrive at the festival. We ended up arriving in Cannes around 11. We got lunch at the food truck, and then headed into the Palais to get in line for the Icelandic film directed by Benedikt Erlingsson called Woman at War. It follows the journey of a woman who decides to take the mission of preserving Iceland’s highlands upon herself in performing very radical moves. By day, she is a choir teacher. By “night,” she is an environmental defender. I am really glad that I watched it.
After that, we relaxed for a bit. Then, we went to the Arcade theatre to see Vanessa Filho's debut French film, Angel Face. It was honestly very difficult to watch. I have never been in a movie that truly made me feel sick to my stomach almost the entire time because the content was so tough. But, after some reflection, I realized that must have been the point of the movie. I am glad I watched the film, but it was not easy. And, there was a lot of holes in the plot which was frustrating. Overall, it was a good day. I feel like I was able to experience different cultures while viewing both of the films that I saw.
