Short Review #2 - Under the Silver Lake

Under the Silver Lake Directed by: David Robert Mitchell Written by: David Robert Mitchell Produced by: Candice Abela, David Baggelaar Starring: Riley Keough, Sydney Sweeney, Jimmi Simpson Run-time: 139 Minutes Under the Silver Lake , directed by David Robert Mitchell, is about everything and nothing at the same time.  It is essentially a well thought out mess.   The fascinating thing about this film is that the viewer can come to endless conclusions of the purpose of the film. Was it a film about white privilege? Was it a film about a break-up? Was it a film about the struggles in Hollywood?  Reality and fantasy are intertwined to the point of absolutely no distinction between the two.   The film pays homage to Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo in many of the shots, and the cinematography is artful and creative.  When David Robert Mitchell was asked about the confusing nature of the film, he said, “I tend to not want to say what is real and what is not.”  S
